Video: Debate Over Watch The Throne’s Long-Term Affect On Hip-Hop

Posted 29 Aug 2011 in Albums, DISCUSSIONS

Here’s a new debate and possibly the most interesting/important one from the Jumpoff TV crew. The debate concerns Watch The Throne’s long-term affect on hip-hop and album marketing strategies as well as the albums content which is being dubbed “Luxury Rap.”

Probably one of the best debates/convos we’ve had as a crew. Today’s discussion revolves around the release, the production and the effect of Watch The Throne has had on the game thus far. Will other artists follow suit? Will labels find more intricate ways to release LPs? For the second half of the debate, we discuss the “Luxury Rap” elephant in the room when it comes to Watch The Throne? Are you tired of it? Oh you are? Turn the shit off. I ain’t rich, but I ain’t mad either lol. Sidebar: 03:21-4:37 is FUCKERY at its finest. NO PAUSE lol.

You know how I want my list to look? The Chronic got to be by itself with no number, and then the list starts. The Chronic was just an incredible album, man. It was so well put together. 00 Dr. Dre – The Chronic

25 Jay Rock – Follow Me Home
24 The Game – Doctor’s Advocate
23 De La Soul – Buhloone Mind State
22 DMX – Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood

Rest in Peace: Proof of D12 (Gone But Never Forgotten)

big proof forever Rest in Peace: Proof of D12 (Gone But Never Forgotten)

On April 11, 2006, Proof was killed by a gunshot wound to the chest at the CCC Club by club bouncer Mario Etheridge on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, Michigan after fatally shooting Keith Bender, Jr.

While playing a game of pool, Proof and Bender got into a heated argument. After a physical altercation, Etheridge fired his gun into the air to try and stop the situation, but Proof shot Bender in the head. Etheridge, who was Bender’s cousin, then shot Proof three times in the head and chest. Proof was killed, and Bender died a week later. Proof’s blood alcohol content at the time of his death was 0.32 percent, four times the level that qualifies someone for a drunken driving conviction; he had no other drugs in his system. Bender’s family began a wrongful death suit against Proof’s estate. Etheridge was held by authorities to have been acting in lawful defense of another man; however, he was found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and discharging a firearm inside a building.

In 2007, Proof’s mother, Pepper Holton created the Proof Foundation in his memory. The Proof Foundation is a Michigan based non-profit organization formed to honor and preserve the legacy of Deshaun “Proof” Holton through the promotion of music and arts education by providing scholarships to low income children from single parent households. Eminem made two songs about Proof’s death on his album “Recovery” titled “Going Through Changes” and “You’re Never Over”, and mentions him in several songs on Relapse

That is just some of the background of what happen five years ago today, But today we will not mourn but instead celebrate the Big homies life. #RIPBIGProof
