Up-and-coming femcee Nina B has stepped into the Booth with her latest street album, The Bo$$tress 2 (B*tch I’m Back).

The sequel to her 2008 debut mixtape, the project features 14 original cuts from the Bronx-born, Brooklyn-raised spitter. Included on the project are reader-approved leaks “Picture This” and “Sky So Gray.”

Joining Nina B. on the guest tip throughout Bo$$tress 2 are Skyzoo, Torae and CurT@!n$. Beats come courtesy of Nascent & QB, 6th Sense, Optiks and more.

When the announcement was made that Def Jam was hiring No I.D. as the VP of A&R, it was a moment of personal satisfaction. For starters, like No I.D., I am from the Chicagoland area and it’s refreshing to see an often forgotten city in the three coast (East, West and Gulf) Hip Hop sphere have one of its most enduring and brightest stars get some much-deserved shine.

Aside from my apparent bias, No I.D. is a producer from an era -and ideology, for that matter- long gone in Hip Hop; but, he’s making commercially viable music and is arguably busier than ever in his career. He started at a time where a producer produced all or at least a vast majority of an artist’s album (see Common’s first three albums No I.D. produced for a reference). Similar to how DJ Muggs influenced Alchemist and bridged a gap between “old” and “new,” it was partly his mentoring, tutelage and talent that inspired No I.D.’s student, Kanye West, who took what No I.D. had been doing and introduced it to a global audience. Not letting his ego hamper the development of Kanye, Mr. West’s career took off! Don’t get it confused, though, No I.D. was not off the radar at this time as he teamed up with Jermaine Dupri and was co-producing records for Bow Wow and Jay-Z. After the American Gangster project, Kanye and No I.D. have joined forces once again and have gone on to make memorable records for Blueprint 3, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, and Watch the Throne. This ability to mentor a future superstar is but one reason No I.D. is a good fit to oversee those who are cultivating talent at Def Jam. This man was doing it when it wasn’t, so to speak, part of his job description.

After all the hoopla and “Huzzah” buzz, Brooklyn’s brutally honest rap oddity Mr. Muthafuckin’ eXquire drops his official debut project Lost In Translation presented by staple streetwear brand Mishka. If you’ve yet to be introduced to this clever spittin mic bully, eXquire catapulted all over the blogosphere’s radar after his low-budget viral video smash “Huzzah” hit the Internets in a whirlwind last spring. His new BK narratives laced with a predominantly throwback soundtrack has drawn a slew of hardcore hip-hop heads unsatisfied with most of the genre’s current offerings and garnered recognition from such notable publications as The Source, Complex and The Fader.

I’ve wholly cosign this emcee from the jump and here’s why; eXquire is a creative, blunt, talented motherfu**in rhymesmith (who earns that parental advisory sticker more than most of these cats) that can relate to all manner of hip-hop fans yet doesn’t bite his tongue for sh*t. After playing a few records one would be hard pressed to deny that eX delivers an entertaining brand of rap music that’s true to his Brooklyn roots but expands on old archetypes and brings something new to the table that engages Wu-Tang and OFWGKTA fans alike. His catalog is worthy of being bumped in the streets, at a lounge, reflecting on life at the crib or anywhere you and the homies can sip straight shots of vodka.
