MLK Remembering Martin Luther Tha King [Article]

Today, people all over the world are remembering and honoring one of America’s most inspirational leaders — the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Every January, on the third Monday, Americans celebrate his legacy of motivational advocacy for equality for all.

As we reflect on this great American, I want to share some of my thoughts on this outstanding leader who literally changed America and the world.

I have been blessed to serve the people of Virginia in various capacities, with opportunities to engage often with people in the many diverse communities that make Virginia vibrant.

Recognizing and celebrating our diversity makes for a richer society and a better country. Herein lies the brilliance of Dr. King’s dream—that one’s diversity should not be considered a liability, but rather an asset to be valued. And that all of us should be measured, not by the color of our skin, but by the content of our character.

During all my travels around Virginia, the one thing that stands out most to me is that everyone, in every region, without regard to race, ethnicity, religion or gender, wants the same thing. People want a good job so they can provide for their families, good schools to educate their children and safe communities in which to live.

We, as a country, have come a long way towards fulfilling Dr. King’s dream, but we still have work left to do.

As Governor, the most important contribution I made to Dr. King’s dream was to establish accountability and high academic standards for our schools, to make sure that every child had access to a quality education.

T.I. on people criticizing Tiny for not taking the drug charge.

“I’ma tell you, 50 Cent and anybody else, we not gonn’a have no discussion about what my ole lady should’a, would’a, couda done for anything as it pertains to me,” begins his rant. “We ain’t gonn’a do that. I’m the only one in my family that’s gonna take a lick when it pertains to the legal system. Since me, none of my other family members have seen a jail cell. Nobody. I’m the last one. The buck stops here. I feel that a person that stands behind [his woman for a criminal charge] is a coward anyway.”

VIBE: I doubt she would have gotten any time.
T.I.: She wasn’t gonna catch it period, ’cause I’m there. That wasn’t even a consideration. Even if she asked me to I would’ve been like, “Nah, you trippin’.”

So you didn’t feel you were more valuable to your family, employees and business partners on the street?
That’s a discussion between me and another man. Not with the mother of my children. Not with the nurturer of my household.

XXL: Thirty-one? I don’t believe that, man. Mack and them are not gonna let you hang it up. I see Baby still doing it.

Weezy: Well, I’m not Baby. [Laughs] Honestly, this is the real truth. I honestly think it’s unfair to my kids. I’m super dedicated into what I do. Like, it’s no questions—it’s hands down, I do this. I live this. I don’t have a day out my week that I do something else. I do this every day of my life, and I’m not about to stop, ’cause that’s the only way you can succeed in this business, is to do it the way I do it. I want to succeed the way I want to succeed. You can succeed. You can put out a hit… But to do it the way I want to do it, to be comfortable to do what the fuck I want to do, you’ve got to work like no other. Like I said, it’s unfair to my kids. So about 30, 31, 32, I gotta get ready. I got three boys and one daughter. She’s gonna be a teenager, and they gonna be growing. They gonna be five or six. It’s time to get them. Let them niggas know what being a man is about, what being a little boy is about. I’m not trying to have no nanny do that or no uncle or no shit like that. No stepdad or no shit like that. I was raised like, Don’t let no other man take care of yours. Even if you gotta take the sacrifice of quitting what you love the most. Like I said, I’m finished at about 31, 32. That’s it, shawty.

Lyrics: Tupac -Blasphemy (1st Verse)

1190381636 5 Lyrics: Tupac Blasphemy (1st Verse)

My family tree, consists of drug dealers, thugs and killers
Strugglin, known to hustle screamin f**k they feelings
I got advice from my father, all he told me was this
Nigga, get off your as* if you plan to be rich
There’s ten rules to the game, but I’ll share with you two
Know, niggaz gon’ hate you for whatever you do
Now rule one – get your cash on, M.O.B.
That’s Money Over Bit*hes, cause they breed envy
Now rule two is a hard one, watch for phonies
Keep yo’, enemies close nigga, watch yo’ homies
It seemed a little unimportant, when he told me I smiled
Picture jewels being handed, to an innocent child
I never knew in my lifetime I’d live by these rules
Initiated as an outlaw, studying rules
Now papa ain’t around, so I gotta recall
or come to grips with bein on my enemy’s wall
(rest in peace)
Promised if I have a seed, I’ma guide him right
Dear Lord don’t let me die tonite
I got words for my comrades, listen and learn
Ain’t nuttin free, give back what you earn, no doubt
Gettin higher than a motherf**ker, blessed and pleased
This Thug Life’ll be the death of me, c’mon, yeah

The portion that I highlighted is something that just stood out to me while listening to this song on the train. It’s crazy how you can listen to a ‘Pac record a million times and manage to always get something new from the record every time. I just wanted to share this wit’ ya’ll, I thought the passage was really deep.
