Rapper Jail News: G Dep Gets 15 Years in Prison

Prodigy on ‘H.N.I.C. 3′ Album Release Date
Following the fiasco last month, in which rumor mills were churning over his group’s possibly break-up, Mobb Deep’s Prodigy is back to work.
As previously announced, the New York rap legend has been in the studio, hard at work on what will be his next solo album, and third installment of his H.N.I.C. album series. This week, he reveals the release date: July 3rd.
So far, Prodigy has unveiled its first single, the Havoc-produced “Gangsta Love” featuring Esther.
While further details are still unconfirmed, word is P’s upcoming LP will feature the likes of Wiz Khalifa, T.I., and longtime collaborator The Alchemist.

On Newsstands: Drake Covers RESPECT Magazine
If you follow YN (RESPECT‘s EIC) on Twitter you’ve seen him Tweet that this upcoming issue of the mag was going to be a big one. Looks like homie wasn’t lying. For their latest issue the hip-hop publication enlists certifiable star, Drake for what looks to be a telling cover feature in which the YMCMB artist discusses his successful sophomore album Take Care, The Weeknd, and why he doesn’t get involved in the wrestling side of the game, rap beef. The issue also features Juicy J, ScHoolboy Q and a tribute to Nas. You can pick up the new RESPECT on May 29th when it lands on newsstands nationwide.

For their latest issue, Billboard magazine gets R&B royalty on the cover with Usher posing like he’s ready to throw hands. With his singles “Climax” and “Lemme See” featuring Rick Ross already in heavy rotation, the multi-platinum recording artist will release his new album, Looking For Myself, on June 12th.
Music News: Earl Sweatshirt on Sony Imprint
Earl Sweatshirt is back, that much is certain. But as excited as the rabid Odd Future fan base is to have the young rapper back from Samoa, the rest of the music world is waiting to see how this all pans out. A lot of what was in question was answered when Jon Camaranica‘s profile of the rapper went to print today in the New York Times. It’s a surprising look at an artist whose changed immensely from what his listening audience last heard.
Among the most surprising news that came out was the fact that Earl does seem, by his own admission and the tone of the piece, genuinely changed by his time in Samoa. That’s evidenced by the fact that he won’t be rapping about rape anymore after volunteering with victims of sexual abuse, and doesn’t listen to or want to hear his signature track “Earl” anymore. Additionally, and potentially most impactful, he’s signed his own solo deal with Sony that gives him his own imprint, “Tan Cressida.” His label will be distributed by Columbia, but is still under Sony Records so he will be able to distribute his music with the Odd Future Records imprint on the CDs.
Although that’s a lot of change, he is maintaining a bond with OF, just not in the same capacity he was before. For those that expected him to slot right back into the mischievous crew might be disappointed in the shift in relationships going on. All that being said, Earl’s next planned projects are all promising in concept: A mixtape with OF producer Matt Martians, his solo, major label debut, and the long-anticipated collaboration album with Tyler, The Creator: EarlWolf.

Three of the most poppin’ names behind the boards/1′s & 2′s are set to join forces to give one of the King Of Pop’s classic albums a facelift. Diplo, A-Trak and Skrillex have been bestowed with the honor of re-crafting the sounds of Michael Jackson‘s Bad LP in accordance with the 25th anniversary of its release this year. Pepsi has already jumped on board with the project and will be providing a special Pepsi-can promotion where fans can scan a code with to hear individual tracks on their mobile devices. This sounds like it could be cocaine in from a can (cc: Tyrone Biggums).
