This new app named Cloo’ (Community Loo) allows people to look up residential bathrooms on their phones that people are willing to rent complete strangers to use. Don’t know how well this idea will go over, I mean you reall must have to take a leak bad to go to a completely strangers crib for that reason and that reason only right? I’d be a bit weary of the characters who use this app. The may be using the loo for more than peeing. Watch the clip for an explanation of the app with added salsa music lol.

News: Woman Scammed Into Buying Wooden iPad

r WOODEN IPAD large570 News: Woman Scammed Into Buying Wooden iPad
There’s plenty of cheap iPad scams out there, but two con artists in South Carolina really added some flair to their fraud.

So a lady got swindled into buying a wooden iPad for $180 after being randomly approached in the parking lot of a McDonalds. Why she didn’t even bother to open the package before making her way home is beyond me. I don’t know what about this scenario didn’t tip her off but here’s the full story via Huffington Post.

Ashley McDowell, a 22-year-old South Carolina woman, found herself holding a creatively decorated piece of wood (seen above) after scammers took her for $180, claiming they were selling her a bargain-rate iPad, according to The Smoking Gun. Police are currently looking for the suspects, who were initially trying to get $300 from McDowell. (The actual minimum retail price of an iPad is $499.)

According to the police report, two men approached McDowell in the parking lot of a McDonald’s with the deal, claiming they bought the iPads in bulk. The supposed iPad sold to McDowell was packaged in a FedEx box, not the standard Apple packaging, according to CBS.

McDowell learned she was ripped off when she opened the package on her way home in her car.

The suspects behind the rip-off were driving a Chevy Impala with no rims, reads the officer’s report. One of the suspects was described as having a gold tooth.

While this scam seems pretty avoidable, it’s not the first time the “brick-in-a-box” con has claimed a victim. In 2009, the Consumerist reported that a Texas man claimed that Best Buy sold him a real brick instead of a MacBook Pro and refused to exchange it.

Earlier this year, CNN reported on a separate Best Buy incident, in which a customer bought a fake iPad that looked real at first glance and came packaged in a seemingly genuine iPad box. Check out the video (below) for details from that report.

STEVE JOBS STEPS DOWN FROM APPLE Breaking News: Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO of Apple

The mastermind behind Apple’s ascension to being the trendsetters in the world of computer technology, Steve Jobs, has given his resignation as CEO of the company today. In a letter to the company he issued the following statement:

“I have always said that if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s C.E.O., I would be the first to let you know,” Mr. Jobs said in a letter released by the company. “Unfortunately, that day has come.”

Jobs will take on the position of Chairman of the Board which would be less demanding and hand over the CEO reigns to Tim Cook, the company’s current COO. Steve Jobs, a co-founder and two-time CEO of Apple has been dealing with some serious health issues due to his rare form of pancreatic cancer for some time, thus, the resignation is not especially surprising.

Following the news Apple’s stock dropped 7% (falling to $357 a share) but managed to rally 5 1/2% back upwards just a few hours ago after a succession plan for the company became apparent.Business analysts are saying that this was in fact the best time for Jobs to step down in order for an optimal transition that would lead the company to a bright future.

Jobs is certainly a titan of industry and we wish him the best of health in these tough times.

Why Earthquake Tweets Reached You Before The Actual Earthquake

Earthquake Tweest Why Earthquake Tweets Reached You Before The Actual Earthquake

Those that were on Twitter just before the Quake hit NYC and the Northeast will find this info especially interesting.

If you live in New York and were on Twitter about an hour ago, something like this probably happened to you: you read a tweet about an earthquake from someone in DC. Then, moments later, you felt it. Here’s why.

Basically, as XKCD explained some time back, the fiber signals that usher your beeps and bops over the internet move at a much, much faster rate than seismic waves. Which means that your quake-related texts, tweets, and emails can sprint to their targets faster than the quake itself, assuming your missives are traveling more than 100km.

NYPD Social Network Unit News: NYPD Creates Unit To Monitor Criminals On Facebook & Twitter

According to a report by the NY Daily news them coppers will now be trying to catch those who are tweetin’ dirty, and I don’t mean Twitter after dark type of dirty. The NYPD has created a unit specifically dedicated to stalking investigating Facebook , Twitter and MySpace (14-year-olds commit crimes too) accounts with any language or inferences of potential criminal activity. Guess I won’t be tweeting N.W.A. lyrics anymore.

Here’s an excerpt from the NY Daily News article:

“The NYPD has formed a new unit to track troublemakers who announce plans or brag about their crimes on Twitter, MySpace and Facebook.
Newly named Assistant Commissioner Kevin O’Connor, one of the department’s online and gang gurus, has been put in charge of the new juvenile justice unit. He and his staff will mine social media, looking for info about troublesome house parties, gang showdowns and other potential mayhem, sources said.”

For the record, if you’re dumb enough to tweet or post about your illegal activities you deserve to get caught.

Personally I think jetpacks are the shit and I hope to own one when I get rich. The dude in this clip however, doesn’t deserve his jetpack. Homie tries to show off on live TV and takes a nose dive off the dock when he tries to take off in his water powered jet pack, almost taking the Fox 5 reporter with him. Check out the clip for a good laugh.

Video: Swiss Man Uses A Jet Pack To Fly Over The Grand Canyon

Posted 12 May 2011 in NEWS, Technology

The thought of owning a jet pack or some variety of personal flying device has always fascinated me. One day we’ll live like The Jetson’s and I’ll definitely own a rocketeer style backpack, but in the meantime we can all live vicariously through this Swiss man’s amazing feat of flying over the Grand Canyon using his advanced jet-wing gadgetry. Yves Rossy, aka “Jetman” flew over one of the wonders of the world this past Saturday, cutting the skies at 8,000 feet above ground level after jumping out of a helicopter. He was able to steer the contraption using just his body movements and employed the wingsuit’s engines to reach speeds of up to 190mph. Check out this great footage of his journey in flight.
