Hennessy gets together ?uestlove,Q-Tip,Curren$y and Kid Sister to reflect on “What Makes An Artist?”. The video is apart of Hennessy’s 2010 Hennessy Artistry Series.
The Roots and Q-Tip were chosen by Hennessy to curate their 2010 Hennessy Artistry series. The series consists of live shows in select cities in which Q-Tip performs with the Roots and together they hand select other artists to join them on-stage.
The concept and title made us think, what makes an artist? Is it the creative process? Could it be someone’s dedication to a craft? Is it earning a paycheck for your art? Or is it just something you’re born with? We posed the question to Q-Tip, ?uestlove, Curren$y, and Kid Sister at the Chicago edition of the Hennessy Artistry series last week. Here are their answers.
Much respect for their answers. The ones who explained it the best would be ?uestlove and Q-Tip.
Q-Tip lands a nice little role in the indie flick Holy Rollers which is about a group of deeply religious Hasidic Jewish teens who stray away from their religions practices and traditions in favor of smuggling ecstasy for local drug dealers. Q-Tip does not play a Jewish man. No…of course he plays one of the drug dealers. Movie was quite the hit at the Sundance Film Festival and is set for a limited release on May 21st. Q-Tip appears about 1:30 into the trailer. Even though it’s a stereotypical role at least it’s not your typical movie a hip-hop artist would star in.
